Comprehensive planning, built around you.

Whether you're still saving, about to retire or settling what you leave behind, we plan all six together, with your CPA and attorney.

Investment management

A portfolio built around what you want your money to do.

  • We set your asset allocation from your goals, your timeline and the risk you are willing to carry.
  • We write an investment policy statement, so we both know what the portfolio is for and what it may hold.
  • Diversified portfolios, held with discipline and rebalanced as markets move.
  • We review performance against your plan, with the drag of costs and taxes counted in.

Retirement planning

Income that lasts as long as you do.

  • One income plan across your pension, your savings and Social Security, tested against an early market drop, inflation, healthcare costs and a long life.
  • When to claim Social Security, compared against your other income and your taxes before you file.
  • For FRS members, the Pension Plan against the Investment Plan, when to enter DROP, and what to do with the money when you leave.
  • Medicare premiums and IRMAA surcharges planned for, and required minimum distributions seen well ahead.

Tax planning

Keep more of what you earn, year after year.

  • We plan with your CPA during the year, before the return is filed.
  • Withdrawals sequenced across taxable, tax-deferred and Roth accounts to lower your lifetime tax bill.
  • Roth conversions in lower-income years, to shrink the distributions you will be required to take later.
  • For owners, business and personal taxes planned together, so the company funds your goals on purpose.

Estate and legacy planning

What you've built goes where you want it to.

  • We work with your attorney so the legal structures match your accounts and your wishes.
  • How to pass assets to your children and the next generation with as little tax as the rules allow.
  • For owners, succession planned early, so a sale or transfer happens on your terms and at full value.

Charitable giving

More of what you give reaches the causes you care about.

  • Giving planned with your taxes, so a gift costs you less and the cause receives more.
  • Giving built into your estate plan, so the causes you support are part of what you leave.

Company retirement plans

The right plan for you and your team.

  • Plan choice compared against your numbers: a Solo 401(k) or SEP for someone working alone, a 401(k), SIMPLE or cash balance plan for a business with a team.
  • The plan used to fund your own retirement from the business, on purpose instead of by default.
  • Your company plan and your personal plan handled together, so neither works against the other.

Wealth managementEverything you've built, working toward your goals
  1. Schedule a meeting. A first conversation about where you are and what you want.
  2. Get your plan. We build it around your numbers and walk you through it.
  3. Put it to work. We set it in motion and meet as your life changes.

Questions people ask.

The ones that come up in almost every first conversation.

Do I need to move all my accounts to work with you?

No. We can plan around accounts you keep elsewhere, like a workplace plan. We'll show you where bringing them together would help and where it wouldn't.

What is a Roth conversion, and should I consider one?

A Roth conversion moves money from a tax-deferred account into a Roth account, and you pay the tax on it now. In a lower-income year, often early in retirement, that can reduce the distributions you are later required to take and your lifetime taxes. We run the numbers before you convert.

What's the tax impact of leaving assets to my children?

It depends on what you leave and how. Retirement accounts carry income tax for whoever inherits them; other assets are treated differently. We plan with your attorney how each asset passes, so more of it reaches your children.

What's the best retirement plan for my business?

It depends on what you earn, how many people you employ and how much you want to put away. A Solo 401(k) or SEP can suit someone working alone; a 401(k) or cash balance plan may fit a business with a team. We compare them against your numbers.

Do you work with my CPA and attorney?

Yes. If they're good, we work with them. We coordinate the plan with the people you already trust, and when you need someone, we know people.
